Milky Way over Chile’s Atacama Desert

One of the great challenges of astrophotography is avoiding light pollution. Distant from urban life, the European Southern Observatory’s (ESO) sites, including the Paranal Observatory, escape light pollution. Such a location elicits ideal conditions for astronomers like Yuri Beletsky to snap incredible photographs. Yuri captures the cosmic colors of the night sky intertwined with the arch of the Milky Way. Image credit: Yuri Beletsky/ESO
